Browns’ WR Coleman
cleared in assault case
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman has been cleared of wrongdoing in an assault case.
The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office said Tuesday that an investigation into a December assault on a 26-year-old man at Coleman’s downtown apartment building “failed to produce sufficient evidence that Corey Coleman was a participant.”
Prosecutor Michael O’Malley’s office said the detectives recently received laboratory results and there was no DNA evidence implicating Coleman. No charges will be filed against Coleman, a former first-round draft pick who played in 10 games as a rookie last season.
Coleman’s brother, Jonathan, and Jared Floyd of Dallas have been charged with felonious assault. They’ve been released on $10,000 bond and are scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Monday.
Corey Coleman caught 33 passes for 413 yards last season. He missed six games after breaking his hand in practice.

Ex-Browns’ QB Manziel may turn to coaching
Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel wants to remain in the sports world, possibly as a college coach.
In an interview with Outkick the Coverage at the International Football Betting Conference in Costa Rica, Manziel said he’s thought about what he would do if he fails to resume his NFL playing career.
Asked which level he’d like to coach, Manziel said “probably college.”
The 24-year-old coached at an Elite 11 quarterbacks camp in Miami in February.
The former Texas A&M star said the Canadian Football League “is definitely something I’ve looked into,” but that he still hopes to play in the NFL. He has been out of the league since the Cleveland Browns released him last year amid several off-field issues.

Woods won’t attend
DUI arraignment
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The attorney for Tiger Woods says the golfer will not attend his arraignment on a driving under the influence charge.
Under court rules, Woods’ attorney Douglas Duncan can enter a not guilty plea on his behalf Wednesday. Any other plea would require Woods’ attendance.
Woods could still eventually enter a program for first-time DUI defendants. He would have to plead guilty to reckless driving and receive a year’s probation and other conditions.
Woods was arrested in May when officers found him asleep in his car. He had no alcohol in his system but told officers he had taken painkillers for his injured back and an insomnia medication.

Lee promoting rally
for QB Kaepernick
NEW YORK (AP) — Spike Lee is promoting a planned rally for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Lee tweeted an advertisement for the rally scheduled for Aug. 23 outside the NFL’s headquarters in New York City. The ad misspells Kaepernick’s name, omitting the first “e.” Lee says on Twitter he didn’t organize the protest, but adds that he supports Kaepernick and “His Stance On The Injustices In The USA.”
The rally is being organized by several civil rights groups.
The former San Francisco 49er became a topic of national conversation last year for choosing to kneel instead of stand for the national anthem, citing police violence and social injustice against minorities. He parted ways with the 49ers in March and hasn’t been signed by another team.

Angels’ Trout records
1,000th career hit
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mike Trout got his 1,000th career hit and also homered on his 26th birthday Monday night.
The Los Angeles Angels’ two-time AL MVP hit the first milestone when he doubled down the left-field line in the fourth inning against Dylan Bundy and the Baltimore Orioles.
Trout then added his 23rd homer of the season in the sixth, driving it high off the left-field pole. The slugger homered on his birthday for the fourth time already in his six-year career, also doing it in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Trout joined Mel Ott, Jimmie Foxx and and Mickey Mantle as the only players to compile 1,000 hits, 500 runs and 500 walks by their age-25 season. Trout already was the only player to get 150 homers, 400 extra-base hits and 150 stolen bases before his 26th birthday.
He is the 11th player to get 1,000 hits in an Angels uniform.
The Big A crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to Trout in center field earlier in the inning. The fans gave him a standing ovation after his 1,000th hit.
