On Saturday, a silent auction at the First Church of the Nazarene will take place to benefit the Harvest for the Hungry food pantry in Ironton.

The event, set for 5:30 p.m., will also feature a catered dinner and entertainment, along with the chance to win items such as Cincinnati Reds tickets, a weekend stay at the Holiday Inn Express, a two-night stay at Dale Hollow Kentucky and tickets to the Temptations Review at the Paramount Arts Center.

All proceeds from the event will go to the food pantry.

Harvest for the Hungry, which has been at its present location on North Fifth Street since 2012, is staffed by about 25 volunteers and allows the needy who apply to come once every 60 days to receive packages containing canned vegetables, soup, milk, meat, peanut butter and other food items.

In 2015, the pantry fed 18,288 people, including 5,797 families, 2,312 seniors, and 6,203 children.

The work of this group is much needed in Lawrence County, and we encourage everyone who can attend to come out and support this worthy cause or to donate to the pantry.
