Betty Lou Spillman

Betty Lou McMunn Spillman, 74, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
The Franklin, Pennsylvania native was born Jan. 14, 1943, the daughter of the late Margaret Lawson Resinger and Charles McMunn.
Betty was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a United States veteran, serving in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps, where she was a private, first class in Company A, Second Platoon. She was of the Baptist faith and a devout Christian. Betty was an avid gamer and enjoyed playing video games with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Patricia Braden; four brothers, Glenn Stewart, Donald Stewart, Charles McMunn Jr. and Richard McMunn; two grandchildren, Steven Ray Spillman and Shane Joseph Akers; and a son-in-law, Paul Smith.
She is survived by six daughters, Constance (John Murray) Smith, Patricia Spillman and Shari (Chris Cole) Chapman, all of Ashland, Kentucky, Faye (Jeff Armstrong) Newman, of Proctorville, Violet Hoff, of Raceland, Kentucky, and Dawn (Richard) Businger, of Findlay; one son, Donald W. (Ginger Streets) Spillman, of Huntington, West Virginia; former son-in-law, Tony Hoff; three sisters, Willa Jean McMunn, of Oil City, Pennsylvania, and Linda McMunn and Donna (Bunky) Malone, both of Franklin, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Leroy Jones, of Cranberry, Pennsylvania, and James McMunn and Derrick Black, both of Oil City, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 8850.
