Come Sunday, Lawrence Countians will have a hometown woman to root for in the Miss America competition.
Cecili Weber is going to the Miss America pageant after winning the Miss Virginia 2017 pageant in June.
Weber graduated from St. Joseph High School in 2013, the same year she won the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen Pageant.
Weber now lives in Roanoke, Virginia. She graduated in the spring from Hollins University with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.
She plans to pursue a career in public relations with a top fashion or beauty brand. Weber competed as Miss Arlington and received a $20,000 scholarship.
Weber’s platform was “Born Leaders,” which she hopes to use to instill confidence and civic interest in young people. She won the swimsuit and evening wear category and also performed a contemporary dance piece to Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” in the talent competition.
Sarah Clapper, 22, of Columbus, is Miss Ohio 2017.
The contestants are already in Atlantic City.
She will be doing a private interview with judges this morning and the swimsuit and evening gown competition will be tonight. The talent portion is on Thursday, and Friday will be the onstage questions for the contestants.
The Miss America pageant will be at 9 p.m. Sunday on ABC.
