COAL GROVE — It’s unbeaten vs. unbeaten.
The Coal Grove Hornets host the Portsmouth West Senators on Friday in a game between a pair of 2-0 teams.
Coal Grove has been impressive on offense with a 51-6 win over Buffalo, W.Va., and 38-20 over Lucasville Valley last week.
Portsmouth West got past Fairland 20-18 in week one and rallied with 29 points in the fourth quarter to beat Portsmouth 32-14 last week.
Both teams have quarterbacks who can throw the football and a standout running back.
Portsmouth outgained West 205-90 in total yards in the first half and led 14-3.
Garrett Hurd ran for 160 yards and Josh Berry returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown. West used a 13-play, 99-yard touchdown drive to wear down the Trojans’ defense.
In a 20-18 win over Fairland in the season opener, Dylan Bradford was 11-of-14 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns to lead West. Hurd ran 17 times for 88 yards and had three catches for 49 yards with Berry grabbing six receptions for 114 yards and both scoring passes.
Coal Grove has been riding an explosive offense led by quarterback Nate Harmon.
