HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men’s basketball team finalized its 2017-18 non-conference schedule, head coach Dan D’Antoni announced Thursday.
This year’s non-league slate will be highlighted by last year’s Elite Eight finalist, Xavier, along with Illinois, William & Mary and others.
“I’m really happy with how this schedule came together,” said D’Antoni.
“We have 18 home games this season, so we should have a fantastic atmosphere for all of those. Overall, I think it’s a very competitive schedule for both non-conference and conference play. In the end, I hope we make it to the postseason and find success there.”
The Thundering Herd’s non-conference slate includes four teams that reached last year’s NCAA Tournament or NIT, while five of the Herd’s 13 non-conference are former conference foes from the Mid-American Conference and Southern Conference. In all, eight of Marshall’s 13 non-league games will be played under the roof of the Cam Henderson Center.
“This year’s non-conference schedule has a great balance of old rivals, regional games and perennial postseason teams,” Associate Director of Athletics and Chief of Staff Jeff O’Malley said.
“With the amount of home games and the launch of HerdVision, this will be an excellent opportunity for even more of our fans to experience Marshall basketball.”
The Herd opens the 2017-18 schedule on Nov. 10 when it begins a two-game homestand against the UT-Martin Skyhawks and on Nov. 13 when it welcomes the Southern Jaguars.
