Making the national stage

The Ironton High School Guard has been selected to take part in the “Dance the Magic” event at Walt Disney World in Florida this fall.

The group, after passing an audition, has been chosen to perform both on stage and in the parade at the theme park’s Christmas celebration from Dec. 1-3.

The 12 girls in the group will represent not just their school, but the region, while in Florida and all in Lawrence County should be excited that they are getting this once-in-a-lifetime honor as a result of their hard work.

As with all school trips, there is a cost, and the  group could use a hand from the community they representing to help pay for costs.

The group has been organizing fundraising events since they were invited to the event in the spring, and donations to the team are being accepted by Valerie and Patti Freeman, who advise the group, at the Ironton Board of Education office.

It is good to see one of the county’s schools in the spotlight for a major event. We encourage all who can to show hometown pride and contribute to trip.
