Hornets earn Div. 3 district golf berth

FRIENDSHIP — The Coal Grove Hornets are developing a habit, but it’s one they don’t want to lose.
For the fifth straight year, the Hornets have qualified for the Division III district golf tournament.
North Adams won the Div. III team title on Wednesday with a 320 score at the Shawnee State Park Golf Course.
West Union was second at 328, Coal Grove was third at 344, Western Brown fourth at 362 and Whiteoak was fifth with a 363-team total.
The top five teams and five individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the district on Monday at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club.
The top team and top individual at the district will advance to the state tournament.
The Hornets’ senior Trevor Deere was sixth overall individually with a 79 score. Noah Lung of North Adams was medalist at 72.
Completing the team scores saw Manchester sixth at 369, Beaver Eastern was next at 381, the Green Bobcats were eighth at 383 followed by Portsmouth Clay at 397, Peebles 408, South Webster 425, Fairfield 427, Portsmouth Notre Dame 434 and Lucasville Valley 441.
Besides Deere, Jake Sites shot an 87, Garrett Holiday and Ethan Wilson each had an 89 and Jed Whitworth carded a 91.
Green was led by Levi Singleton with a 92 and Nathan Weigand at 94. Andrew Ramey had a 98, Mason Barber 99 and Garrett Daniels 114.
