Robert Hartwig

Dec. 4, 1936 — Sept. 27, 2017

Robert “Bob” Edward Hartwig, 80, of Kitts Hill, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Dec. 4, 1936, a son of the late Emil F. and Mabel McGinnis Hartwig. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Arthur Hartwig, whom he married June 25, 1955.
Mr. Hartwig attended Kitts Hill Schools and was a 1954 graduate of Ironton High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and an owner/operator of Hartwig Excavating for 39 years, retiring in 2012. He was also a 50 year member of the Millwright Local #1519 and a member of the New Valley Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the quartet and was a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion #806, UCT #11 and enjoyed looking and showing Model A Fords and being with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Pam Marie Massie Hartwig; a son-in-law, Steven L. Thacker; his paternal grandparents, Ed (Rebecca) Hartwig; and his maternal grandparents, Robert (Minnie) McGinnis.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Hartwig, of Cincinnati, and Paul (DeNeil Hartley) Hartwig, of Kitts Hill; a daughter, Jana Thacker, of Kitts Hill; nine grandchildren, Emily Hartwig and Eddie Hartwig, both of Cincinnati, Shara (Troy) Blagrave, of North Canton, Cassie (Greg) Meyman, of Trenton, Rachel (David) Stevens and Matt (Lauren) Hartwig, both of Pedro, Sarah (Brandon) Stapleton, of Ashland, Kentucky, McKenzie Reed, of Ironton, and Callie Thacker, of Kitts Hill; 12 great-grandchildren, Alex Blagrave, Adam Blagrave, Jack Meyman, Robbie Meyman, Ben Meyman, Cameron Stevens, Bryson Stevens, Gage Stevens, Gracelyn “Gracie” Hartwig, MacKayla Stapleton, Baylen Corbin and Kaydence Corbin; a sister, Judy, of Ironton; a brother-in-law, Don (Carolyn) Arthur, of Ironton; his nieces and nephews, Karen Arthur, of Wheelersburg, Chris (Jeanie) Arthur, of Ironton, Kim McGinnis, of California, and Joe (Deanna Lee) Comprix, of New York; and six great-nieces and nephews, Charlie Arthur, Katie Arthur, Andrew Comprix, Julia Comprix, Eleanor Comprix and Nicholas Comprix.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Revs. Larry Comer, Dale Knipp and Lenny Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850 and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Margaret Butcher

Margaret A. Butcher, 76, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Russell Butcher.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
