Sharon Hunt
March 11, 1957 — Nov. 14, 2017
Sharon Lynn Johnson Hunt, 60, of Coal Grove, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Crystal Care Nursing Center in Coal Grove.
Sharon was born in the Lawrence County General Hospital in Ironton on March 11, 1957, a daughter of Garlen and Eloise Harmon Johnson, of Coal Grove. She is also survived by her husband, John Hunt, whom she married Dec. 14, 1982.
Sharon was a 1975 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. She served as a candy striper at the local hospital her senior year, and later worked at Kehoe’s Dairy Bar, Burger Chef, Walmart and as a hospice volunteer. Sharon enjoyed playing piano at her dad’s church and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sharon is survived by her children, a son, Chad (Michelle) Hamilton and a daughter, Kellie (JC Ross), both of Coal Grove, and a son, JJ Hunt, currently serving in the Navy at Naval Base Ventura County, California; her brothers, Steve (Sharon) Johnson, of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Leo (Kim) Johnson, of Ironton; her beloved grandchildren, Alexis Hamilton, Trey Hunt, Jaylen Hunt, Haylie Ross, Evan Ross and Rylie Ross, all of Coal Grove, and Jesse Hunt and Jared Hunt, both of Oxnard, California.
Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Friday in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Friends and family may line up for the funeral procession beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, and will leave for the cemetery at 8:45 a.m. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
Willard DePriest
Dec. 21, 1942 — Nov. 13, 2017
Willard Ray DePriest, 74, of Grayson, Kentucky, took his heavenly flight Thursday, Nov. 13, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky, with his family at his side.
He was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Mildred Koster DePriest and the late Andrew DePriest. He attended Pedro schools. Willard was a retired custodian with the Rock Hill grade school No. 2, with over 35 years of service to our community. He loved to coon hunt and fish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda DePriest; three brothers, Eddie, Ronald and Andrew DePriest; a sister, Ella Dameron; and two grandchildren, Danielle DePriest and Lauren Nicole Smith.
Surviving Willard is his loving family of his wife, Verna DePriest, of Grayson, Kentucky; three sons, Kevin R. (Patty Fields) DePriest, of Ironton, Mike (Evelyn) DePriest, of Ostrander, and Mike Smith, of Grayson, Kentucky; two daughters, Pam (Ronnie) McMichael, of Galion, and Suzanne DePriest, of Delaware, Ohio; two sisters, Mintie (Bill) Shope, of Pedro, and Juanita (George) Mason, of Prospect; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel, Ironton, with the Rev. Brian Carmon officiating. Willard will be laid to rest in the Vernon Furnace Cemetery, Decatur Township.

Mary Groves
March 10, 1932 — Nov. 14, 2017
Mary Delores Groves, 85, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, departed this earth for her Heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Ironton. She was born March 10, 1932, in Roane County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Hubert and Dorothy Paxton.
She was a member of the Fifth Street Church of Christ in Huntington, West Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia; and three brothers, Bill Paxton, Willis Paxton and Jessie Paxton.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Oral Groves; three sons, Stephen (Gloria) Groves, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Mark (Frances) Groves, of Russell, Kentucky, and David Groves, of Tallahassee, Florida; one brother, Jerry (Carol) Paxtonm of Shaverton, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Danny, Dalton, Derek, Samantha and J.D.
Funeral services will be noon Friday at Reed Funeral Home, Greenup, Kentucky, with Jamie Leonard officiating. Burial will be in North Eastern Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, Greenup, Kentucky.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
Venora Lucas
Venora Lucas, 84, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Mildred Baptist Church, Branchland, West Virginia. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.
Kathy McKnight

Kathy McKnight, 59, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Heartland Nursing Home, South Point. She was born April 19, 1958, to the late Raymond G. and Mildred Mae Lewis Brown.
She was the wife of Rick McKnight. She was a home health care worker.
Survivors include her husband; daughters, Keia (BJ) Kimmle, Rickie Lee Ann (Jimmy) Burton; grandchildren, Haley Kimmle, Breanna Kimmle, Alexis Huff Noah Burton and Jaydon Burton; great-grandchild, Sawyer James; brother, Ray Brown; and sister, Michelle Baldridge; along with several more family and friends.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton, until the time of the funeral at noon with Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery.
