PORTSMOUTH — The Dynamic Duo became the Three Musketeers.
Lexi Wise and Lexie Arden did their thing with 36 combined points while Riley Schreck added 10 key points to help the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 65-38 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Ironton trailed most of the first half and didn’t take the lead until making a free throw with 3:24 left in the second quarter to lead 20-19.
The Lady Tigers were up 26-19 at the half.
“We’re playing some new kids and it’s going to take some time to get them acclimated. We had some nice looks and good movement but we fumbled the ball out of our hands,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham whose team is missing starters Samantha LaFon and Lydia Hannan with injuries.
“But we kept with it and kept playing and got rolling. We put things together and started hitting some shots. We didn’t force anything. We moved the ball well and attacked the basket. I was pleased with what we did offensively.”
Sharia Kearns scored eight of her 11 points in the first quarter as Portsmouth took a 14-10 lead.
Wise — who had six points in the second quarter — made two free throws to put Ironton up for good while Schreck and Haylee Stevens each hit a trifecta in the second quarter.
Wise scored eight points and Arden had six points in the third quarter as Ironton opened up a 44-33 lead.
Hannah Hughes — who scored 11 points including three 3-pointers — had five points in the quarter for Portsmouth.
The defense held Portsmouth to just five points in the fourth quarter while Arden scored six points and seven different players scored as the Lady Tigers continued to pull away.
Schreck, Katie Boyer and Sophie Caines all had three points each including one-for-one from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Ironton hosts Fairland on Monday.
