PEDRO — When the Rock Hill Redwomen were put to the test, they passed.
When Greenup County began to foul the Redwomen in the fourth quarter, Rock Hill converted 11-of-14 free throws en route to a 58-53 win over the Lady Musketeers on Wednesday.
“Tonight was a great team effort,” said Rock Hill coach Todd Knipp. “We were able to make some shots down the stretch.”
Lucy Simpson scored 16 points and was 6-of-10 at the line while Makayla Scott had 15 points to lead the Redwomen (2-1).
Kyleigh Noel added 10 points as she went 5-of-6 at the foul stripe and Ryleigh Morris also went 5of-6 at the line as she scored nine points.
Maggie Miller had a game-high 22 points for Greenup County (0-4). Gracie Haywood and Lauren Hannah scored 10 points each.
The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. Rock Hill took a 27-26 halftime lead as Scott went 4-for-4 at the foul line and Makenzie Hanshaw came off the bench to score three points.
Miller had six points for the Lady Musketeers.
The Redwomen went ahead 41-38 after three quarters as Simpson scored seven points in the quarter and Scott had five. Miller pumped in 10 points for the Lady Musketeers.
In the fourth quarter, Rock Hill outscored Greenup 17-15 as Noel was 5-of-6 and Simpson 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Morris got four points including 2-of-2 at the line.
Hannah had six points and Haywood four to pace Greenup.
Rock Hill visits Chesapeake on Thursday.
