The Brass Band of the Tri-State, under the direction of Dr. Michael Stroeher, will present its annual Christmas concert on at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Ohio University Southern Collins Center Bowman Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
The program will feature several Christmas favorites arranged for brass band and will open with Leroy Anderson’s ever-popular “A Christmas Festival.” This will be followed by In the Bleak of Mid-Winter, “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Greensleeves,” and “The Christmas Song.” The concert will conclude with “Nutcracker ‘Sweet’” — a parody of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
In addition to their Christmas program, the ensemble performs a variety of music encompassing several genres and styles including traditional brass band music from England and North America, original pieces arranged specifically for the band, musicals, marches, orchestral transcriptions, Salvation Army Band music, and popular selections. The Brass Band of the Tri-State is a proud member of the prestigious North American Brass Band Association.
The Brass Band of the Tri-State rehearses once a week on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. in the Vinson Middle School band room in the Westmoreland area of Huntington.
The group is seeking new members, so anyone interested in joining or desiring additional information is encouraged to visit the Brass Band of the Tri-State Facebook page, or call 304 617-3461.
