GALLIPOLIS — The St. Joseph Flyers decided to work fast.
The Flyers raced to a 21-3 first quarter lead and never looked back as they beat the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders 66-27 on Friday.
Chase Walters had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Flyers (8-2). Joey McDavid scored 13 points as the starters saw limited action.
“It was a good game. We took care of what we needed to get done. It was nice to play everyone. They work hard in practice and it’s nice to get them a chance to play,” said Flyers’ coach Rex Cooksey.
“We worked on some different looks to see how they did in a game. It was a good chance to test some things out and left everyone play.”
Walters scored 10 points in the first quarter as St. Joseph opened up the big lead.
Walters had four points and Jimmy Mahlmeister three in the second quarter as the Flyers built a 36-13 halftime cushion.
McDavid had five points in the first two minutes of the third quarter before going to the bench as the Flyers as they extended the lead to 52-23.
St. Joseph hosts Portsmouth Clay on Saturday and Symmes Valley next Saturday.
