GALLIPOLIS — The Coal Grove Hornets got off to a cold start and never got warmed up.
Coal Grove missed its first 10 field goal attempts and never led in a 59-37 loss to the Gallipolis Blue Devils in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
The Hornets finished the game just 10-of-50 from the field for 25 percent. Gallipolis was 26-of-54 for 48 percent.
Aaron Music had 14 points and six rebounds for the Hornets 6-3, 1-2). Jeb Jones grabbed six rebounds.
Zach Loveday had 18 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocked shots to pace the Blue Devils (7-1, 3-1). Evan Wiseman scored 15 points while Caleb Henry added 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Hornets fell behind 11-2 in the first quarter as they made just two foul shots.
Henry scored six points and Loveday four as Gallipolis went up 27-17 at the half. Music scored nine points including a 3-pointer and 4-of-4 at the foul line.
Loveday hit a 3-pointer and scored nine points in the third quarter as the Blue Devils stretched the lead to 42-26. Jones was 4-of-6 at the line and Music scored five more points.
Wiseman scored eight point in the fourth quarter as Gallipolis continued to pull away.
Payton Smith came off the bench to score five points including a 3-pointer and Evan Gannon had a 3-pointer and scored four points for the Hornets.
On Tuesday, Coal Grove is at Rock Hill and Gallipolis visits South Point.
