Lady Dragons beat Huntington with consistent effort

PROCTORVILLLE — Steady as she goes.
The Fairland Lady Dragons played a consistent game from start to finish and pulled away from the Huntington Lady Highlanders 69-49 on Monday.
Emily Chapman had 19 points, six assists and four steals to pace Fairland (11-3).
Allie Marshall finished with 17 points, Harley Lyons scored 13 while Alesha Simpson added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Madison Slash scored 14 points and Ravyn Goodson 12 for Huntington (1-7).
Huntington led 3-2 and the game was tied at 5-5 after a basket by Ravyn Goodson at the 4:31 mark of the first quarter.
Marshall scored nine seconds later and Fairland took the lead for good. Chapman’s 3-pointer with 49 seconds left in the quarter made it 17-7 and then Goodson hit a triple and it was 17-10 at the end of the quarter.
A 3-pointer by Brittany Thompson at the 3:35 mark of the second quarter gave Fairland a 27-16 lead. Two free throws by Kelsie Warnock put the lead at 29-18 and a 3-pointer by Lyons with 1:22 on the clock had the lead at 32-20.
Alezha Turner’s basket cut the deficit to 32-22 at the half.
A basket by Huntington’s Camryn Michallas got Huntington within 35-30 at the 3:56 mark. Lyons then hit a basket and a 3-poitner and two foul shots by Chapman opened up a 41-30 lead with 2:16 to go in the quarter.
Lyons’ 3-pointer put the lead at 46-32 at the end of the third quarter.
Wilson’s basket with 5:33 to play put Fairland up 58-39. A 3-pointer by Alesha Simpson gave Fairland a 61-41 cushion with 4:12 left.
Marshall scored with 2:38 to play and Fairland had its largest lead of the game at 65-43.
Fairland hosts Ironton on Thursday.
