PORTSMOUTH — The South Point Lady Pointers started fast and didn’t slow down.
The Lady Pointers scored 21 points in the first quarter and finished with a 70-33 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Portsmouth Lady Trojans on Monday.
Leah Lawson scored 18 points including three 3-pointers while Emilee Whitt scored 16 points and made a pair of 3-pointers to lead the South Point offense.
Lawson hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 points while Maddy Khounlavong had five points to give South Point a 21-11 lead. Shai Howard scored all five of her points for Portsmouth.
South Point (8-6, 5-3) held the Lady Trojans to five points in the second quarter and opened up a 38-16 halftime cushion. Kate Mundy scored all five of her points and Whitt had four points in the quarter.
Whitt got the hot hand in the third quarter and hit two trifectas and scored 10 points while Lawson had six points and the Lady Pointers built a 59-23 lead.
Coach Dave Adams emptied his bench in the fourth quarter as Sydney Markel and Kara Taylor scored four points each and Sarah Roach hit a 3-pointer.
Kylisha Kearns and Layla Kegg had four points each in the quarter for Portsmouth.
On Thursday, South Point hosts Fairland and Portsmouth visits Chesapeake.
