Gallipolis uses big 2nd half to beat Rock Hill

GALLIPOLIS — The Rock Hill Redmen were heavy underdogs, but they made it interesting for a while.
The Redmen trailed by just five points at halftime before the Gallipolis Blue Devils took over in the second half and notched a 60-35 Ohio Valley Conference win on Tuesday.
Logan Hankins, Braden Stamper and Kadin France all scored eight points for Rock Hill (0-11, 0-8). France had 11 rebounds while Stamper and Bacorn grabbed seven each.
The Blue Devils’ 7-foot-1 sophomore center Zach Loveday had 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Cory Call scored 14 points and Justin McClelland had 12.
The Redmen had the game tied at 2-2 before falling behind 11-4 at the end of the first quarter.
But tied the game 11-11 with 5:11 on the second quarter clock and a 3-pointer by Hankins got Rock Hill within 19-18 with 2:36 left in the half.
Gallipolis (11-1, 6-1) then scored four straight points to end the half and the lead was 23-18.
Stamper hit a basket with 5:29 in the third quarter as Rock Hill got within 25-22.
But Loveday scored eight points in the quarter and McClelland and Kaden Thomas each hit 3-pointers as Gallipolis pulled away to a 41-25 lead.
Call scored eight points in the fourth quarter and Gage Harrison and Blaine Carter each hit 3-pointers as the Blue Devils continued to pull away.
Garrett Miller scored four points off the bench for Rock Hill.
On Friday, Rock Hill hosts Chesapeake and Gallipolis visits Ironton.
