Lexie Arden has been in the crosshairs off opposing defenses all season. The young sophomore is shooting back.
Adjusting to the various defenses and applied pressure, Arden has upped her offense including Monday night when she scored 25 points as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 49-39 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Arden has averaged 23.5 points in her last four games including one game with a career-high 33 points.
Riley Schreck hit three 3-pointers as she scored nine points to help Ironton improve to 14-4 overall and 9-3 in the OVC. Lexi Wise and Lydia Hannan scored six each.
Chesapeake (9-8. 6-4) was led by Natalee Hall with 17 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Shia Ervin added 10 points.
The Lady Panthers led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter as Hall scored six points. Arden had all of Ironton’s points.
But the Lady Tigers rallied to take a 20-18 halftime lead as Schreck drained a pair of trifectas, Arden scored four points and Hannan was 3-of-4 at the line.
Ervin scored six points for Chesapeake.
Ironton extended its lead to 32-27 after three quarters as Arden scored six points and Wise got four. Ervin had four points for Chesapeake.
Arden scored eight points including 4-of-4 at the foul line and Schreck bombed in a clutch 3-pointer.
Ironton was 6-of-9 from the foul line in the quarter.
Hall hit both of her 3-pointers and scored 10 of Chesapeake’s 12 points in the quarter.
On Thursday, Ironton visits South Point and Chesapeake goes to Coal Grove.
