WILLOW WOOD — It’s hard to win if the ball doesn’t go in the basket.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings suffered their worst shooting night of the season as they fell 61-38 to the South Gallia Lady Rebels on Wednesday.
The Lady Vikings were just 11-of-52 from the field for 21 percent. They were a mere 1-of-18 from behind the 3-point line.
Jensyn Shepherd had 16 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and five blocked shots to lead the Lady Vikings (10-8).
Rachael Hayes added 11 points, four assists and two steals while Kaitlyn Crabtree pulled down seven rebounds.
South Gallia (6-11) was led by Erin Evans with 16 points and Aaliyah Howell with 15. Also in double figures were Alyssa Cremeens with 11 points and Christine Griffith with 10.
The Lady Rebels bolted to a 20-6 first quarter lead as Howell hit two 3-pointers, Griffith scored six points and Evans also hit a 3-pointer.
Shepherd had four points for Symmes Valley.
In the second quarter, South Gallia continued to build on its lead over the Lady Vikings by going up 38-22 at the half.
Cremeens knocked down a pair of 3-pointers while Howell hit a 3-pointer and made two of fouls shots. Shepherd scored nine of the Lady Vikings’ 13 points.
The Lady Vikings managed just five points in the third quarter as the Lady Rebels continued to pull away to a 52-27 lead. Evans made two more triples and scored eight points in the quarter.
Symmes Valley outscored South Gallia 14-9 in the fourth quarter as Hayes converted 7-of-8 free throws while Taylor Sells hit a 3-pointer.
On Thursday, Symmes Valley visits Green.
