GALLIPOLIS — The South Point Pointers don’t have any love for Zach Loveday.
The Gallipolis Blue Devils 7-foot-1 sophomore center scored a career-high 37 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as they beat the Pointers 68-49 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
“We couldn’t stop Loveday,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “We hung around 13 to 15 points in the third and four quarters, but we never could get any multiple stops.”
Logan Blour scored nine points and Blaine Carter eight for Gallipolis (14-2, 8-2).
Tayshaun Fox scored 23 points to lead South Point. Chance Gunther added nine points and Austin Webb had seven rebounds.
Loveday scored 20 of the first 22 Gallipolis points. He had 17 points in the first quarter as Gallipolis took a 19-9 lead.
Fox scored seven for the Pointers (7-10, 3-8).
Loveday scored five points and Blour four in the second quarter as each team scored 11 points and it was 30-20 at the half.
Loveday scored six points five other players scored two points each as the Blue Devils extended their lead to 46-32.
Fox scored seven points and Jared Whitt hit a 3-pointer for South Point.
In the fourth quarter, Fox had six points and the Pointers were 7-of-8 from the foul line but Loveday hit a 3-pointer and scored nine points. Blour was 3-of-4 at the line and scored five points while Justin McClelland and Bailey Walker each hit a 3-pointer.
On Tuesday, South Point hosts Ironton and Gallipolis entertains Fairland.
