Senators hold on to edge Lady Vikings

WEST PORTSMOUTH — If the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were in the middle of the ocean and fell overboard, they would have gotten hung up on the side of the boat.
The Lady Vikings struggled to hit their shots in a 51-47 loss to the Portsmouth West Lady Senators on Monday.
The Lady Vikings (11-9) made only 19-of-66 field goal attempts for 29 percent and failed to make any of their 15 3-point goal attempts.
Jensyn Shepherd scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds along with two steals and two blocked shots for the Lady Vikings.
Rachael Hayes had 14 points, six assists and three steals. Kaitlyn Crabtree pulled down 13 rebounds for Symmes Valley.
West (6-13) was led by Makayla White with 19 points. Morgan Rigsby had 13 points and Jordyn Swords added 11.
Swords hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored seven points as West took a 13-12 first quarter lead. Shepherd scored eight points and Hayes four.
The lead went to 26-22 at the half as five different players scored for West in the second quarter. Hailee Littlejohn and Crabtree scored four each.
Rigsby scored eight points as the Lady Senators built a 41-32 lead in the third quarter
Hayes scored four points with Crabtree and Shepherd scoring three each in the quarter.
Symmes Valley mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter as Shepherd scored nine points and Hayes six. Shepherd was 3-of-4 at the line while Hayes was 2-of-4.
White scored eight points to help West hold on for the win.
On Saturday, Symmes Valley visits Racine Southern.
