COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets said good-bye to five seniors and hello to Addi Dillow.
Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach started his five seniors — Emily Compliment, Halie Frazier, Kasey Murphy, Adriana Pickett and Destiny Dolen — in their final home game Saturday while injured senior Alexis Hall watched.
But it was the freshman Dillow who scored a game-high 23 points to help the Lady Hornets beat the Lincoln County Lady Panthers 63-57.
“The seniors were the focus of the game, but freshman Addi Dillow showed what she can bring to the table,” said Roach.
“I have had six girls who have scored 20 or more points. That’s a good problem to have when a team tries to focus on one girl.”
Baylee McKnight and Dolen scored 13 points each in the win while Murphy had eight pints and 14 rebounds.
Rachel Pennington had 11 points and Graci Brumfield 10 to lead a balance Lincoln County offense.
Coal Grove led 11-7 after the first quarter as Dillow had four points and McKnight hit a 3-pointer.
The Lady Hornets erupted for 26 points in the second quarter to take a 37-20 halftime lead.
Dillow had a 3-pointer and scored nine points, Dolen scored eight point and McKnight had another 3-pointer and scored seven points in the scoring surge.
Brumfield scored six points while Pennington and Katherine Spencer had four each and the Lady Panthers cut the deficit to 49-38.
Dillow knocked down a 3-pointer and scored seven points for Coal Grove.
Lincoln County (12-8) got three 3-pointers and six different players scored as the Lady Panthers outscored Coal Grove 19-14.
But Murphy had four points and Dillow made another triple as Coal Grove ended any comeback hopes.
“We came out hot in the first half and built a good lead, then we came out in the set the cruise control,” said Roach.
Coal Grove ends the regular season 17-5. The Lady Hornets play in the Division III sectional tournament at 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Jackson.
“I want to give a special thanks to all my seniors for a great four years to end the regular season 17-5. It is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Roach.
