JACKSON — The pace was slower. The results didn’t change.
The Fairland Lady Dragons had two easy wins over the South Point Lady Pointers during the regular season.
When the two teams met in the Division III sectional finals on Saturday, South Point tried to play a deliberate style to try and slow down the Lady Dragons.
But Fairland adjusted and grabbed a 49-20 win to advance to the district tournament.
Emily Chapman scored 14 points and Taylar Wilson had 12 to lead the Lady Dragons (21-2).
South Point (11-12) was led by Ashley Perkey with seven points and five rebounds and Emilee Whitt finished with six points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Chapman scored eight points including a 3-pointer while Alesha Simpson scored four points to help the Lady Dragons take a 12-4 first quarter lead.
Madison Kearns made a trifecta and Ashley Perkey had a free throw to account for the South Point scoring.
Wilson scored half of Fairland’s 10 points in the second quarter to extended the lead to 22-10 at the half.
Emily Whitt, Kate Mundy and Perkey all had baskets for the Lady Pointers.
The Lady Dragons continued to add to their lead in the third quarter. Kelsie Warnock and Allie Marshall each hit a trey to help make it 32-14.
Fairland got the tempo going in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lady Pointers 17-6.
Chapman hit a 3-pointer and scored five points while Marshall and Wilson scored four points each.
Fairland will play Wheelersburg at noon on Saturday in the district semifinals at the Waverly downtown arena.
