The Ironton Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened early Friday morning.
IPD Detective Joe Ross said 911 got a call around 2 a.m. from residents around the 500 block of Vine Street.
“They had heard numerous gun shots,” he said. When officers arrived on the scene they talked to a person who’s Chevrolet was shot at and gathered preliminary information.
Detectives and officers returned later to investigate further.
No one was injured, but a car and a house were hit.
The car was parked in a driveway next to the ally behind Granny’s and had been struck by at least 16 bullets on the driver’s side, shattering one window and leaving bullet holes in both windows and doors.
“We recovered at least 19 shell casings from the alley behind Granny’s,” Ross said.
Not only was the car hit, but so was a house across Vine Street.
“There were three holes where bullets had entered into the neighbor’s house,” Ross said, adding that the house next to the car was not hit. “The neighbors did not know at the time their house had been shot. They didn’t discover it that their house had been hit until they got up in the morning. There was a small hole in the window and the bullet was in the sheet rock.”
Ross said they believe, at this time, that it was not a drive by, rather that the shooter was on foot.
“They may have parked down the street, shot while on foot and then taken off running,” he said.
Ross said they did not have any suspects as of Friday afternoon.
Anyone who has information about the shooting can call the IPD at 740-532-5606.
“You don’t have to leave your name, you can leave an anonymous message,” he said. “Any information from the public would be appreciated.”
