CHESAPEAKE — Crews were working Monday afternoon to remove boulders from U.S. 52, following a rockslide early in the morning.

Kathleen Fuller, public information specialist for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said she was notified of the rockslide, located just east of the 17th Street Bridge into Huntington and before Tallow Ridge Road, at about 7 a.m.

She said the slide, which brought multiple boulders into the highway, had closed all four lanes of traffic.

“Our maintenance staff is there, trying to bust up the rock,” she said.

She said the agency has an emergency contractor coming in to help haul off the rock.

Fuller said there appears to be some pavement damage and repairs will have to be made.

She said the first priority is removal of the rock.

“Then we’ll be able to figure out who’s going to fix this,” she said, adding that they should be able to make a determination by Monday evening.
