The Ironton Police Department is looking for anyone who may have clues to a shooting last week.
Around 2 a.m. on Feb. 23 in the alley behind Granny’s in the 500 block of Vine Street, someone fired around 19 rounds towards a car parked in a driveway.
Although people heard the sound, no one saw who did the shooting.
“We here at the Ironton Police Department are working diligently on our recent drive-by shooting,” said IPD Chief Pam Wagner. “Officers have been in the area of the shooting, trying to locate potential witnesses and any other information or evidence that may be related.”
Wagner asked that anyone who thinks they may have information but haven’t spoken to an officer to call the IPD office at 740-532-5606.
“If you were in the area and you happen to have any video footage of that night, please contact us,” Wagner said, adding that that some neighbors have already provided footage. “Information is the key to making an arrest in these types of crimes and we need your cooperation and help. We are asking that if you can help us, please do so. This is your city and we want to keep everyone safe.”
IPD Detective Joe Ross said they believe, at this time, that it was not a drive by, rather that the shooter was on foot.
“They may have parked down the street, shot while on foot and then taken off running,” he said.
Police collected 19 shell casings from the alley. The car was hit at least 14 times on the driver’s side and shattered two windows.
A couple of bullets hit a house across the street, going through a window and lodging into sheetrock.
