PTO meeting to focus on security measures

Fairland West Elementary will host a special PTO meeting on Tuesday focusing on school safety and security.

Teresa Johnson, the school’s principal, said the meeting, set for 7 p.m. at the school, will feature Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, who will present a program on school security and student safety. Lawless will explain recent security measures that the sheriff’s department has undertaken at the schools.
Fairland schools superintendent Roni Hayes will also be speaking about plans for increasing security and surveillance to protect students and employees.

“Board members have expressed concerns about school safety,” school board president Gary Sowards said. “The board has committed funds to insure resources to protect our students.”

Parents, teachers and community members are encouraged to attend the meeting.  There will be a question and answer session following presentations. Childcare will be provided. For more information, contact Johnson at the school 740-886-3150.
