8 area girls’ named to All-Ohio basketball teams

COLUMBUS — The Great Eight.
A total of eight area girls were named on Monday to the Ohio High School Prep Sports Writers’ All-Ohio basketball teams in Division III and IV.
The area selections were led by 5-foot-5 Fairland Lady Dragons’ senior guard Emily Chapman who was named to the Div. III All-Ohio first team.
Chapman — who scored more than 1,000 points in her career — led Fairland to the Ohio Valley Conference championship and a berth in the regional semifinals. The Lady Dragons posted an 89-15 record during her four years as a starter.
A Cedarville University recruit, Chapman averaged 19.7 points a game along with 3.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 4.1 steals.
On the All-Ohio Special Mention team were Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 5-11 sophomore Lexie Arden and Coal Grove Lady Hornets 5-9 senior Emily Compliment.
Arden was a first team all-district selection for the second straight year as she averaged 16.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.9 steals and 2.6 blocked shots per game.
Ironton was 17-5 in the regular season and lost in the district semifinals 38-37 to North Adams.
Compliment helped Coal Grove to a 17-5 record as she scored at a 15.0 clip with 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. She eclipsed the 1,000-point career milestone.
Named to the Honorable Mention team were Fairland 6-foot junior Allie Marshall, Ironton 5-10 senior point guard Lexi Wise, South Point 5-8 sophomore Emilee Whitt and Chesapeake 5-5 senior guard Natalee Hall.
A good defender, Marshall was a second team all-district pick and was second on the team in scoring at 10.9 a game and in rebounding at 5.9.
Glenville State-bound Wise was a four-year starter and second team all-district. She averaged 14.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per contest.
Hall is a two-time all-district second team selection and averaged 12.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the Lady Panthers.
Whitt was named to the all-district second team after she averaged 14.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.4 steals. The Lady Pointers’ point guard averaged just 1.3 turnovers on game.
In Division IV, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings’ 6-foot senior center Jensyn Shepherd was named All-Ohio Special Mention.
Shepherd — who scored more than 1,000 points in her career — averaged 17.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks a game.
