COLUMBUS — The number seven might be lucky, but there was no luck needed for seven area players who earned All-Ohio honors.
The Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association announced the Division III and IV All-Ohio basketball teams on Monday and seven local players were named to those teams.
South Point Pointers’ 5-foot-10 junior guard Tayshaun Fox was an All-Ohio special mention selection after he was named first team All-Southeast District in Division III.
Fox — who has already eclipsed 1,000 career points — averaged 17.9 points a game with 2.0 rebounds, 20 assists and 2.1 steals.
Named to the Division III All-Ohio honorable mention list was Ironton Fighting Tigers’ 6-2 junior guard Ethan Wilson who was a second team All-Southeast District selection.
The Coal Grove Hornets capped one of the best seasons in school history with a pair of All-Ohio honorees.
Named to the Division IV All-Ohio special mention list was 6-4 senior forward Sam Angelo who averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in a balanced Hornets’ offense. Angelo was also a strong defender.
Possibly the team’s most athletic player, Coal Grove’s 6-2 junior Aaron Music was All-Ohio honorable mention after he 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds.
Angelo was a first team All-Southeast District pick and Music was a second team district choice.
Three other area players were named to the Division IV team.
St. Joseph Flyers’ 6-1 senior center Chase Walters was named All-Ohio special mention and 6-2 senior guard Joey McDavid was All-Ohio honorable mention.
Walters — who scored more than 1,000 points in his career — averaged 15.8 points, 6.8 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field.
McDavid was a solid all-around player who averaged 13.8 points and 5.0 assists a game.
Walters was first team All-Southeast district and McDavid was second team all-district.
Symmes Valley Vikings’ 5-8 senior guard Layken Gothard was named All-Ohio special mention after being a first team All-Southeast District player.
Gothard averaged 18.2 points a game along with 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.4 steals.
