WEST PORTSMOUTH — The Rock Hill Redwomen turned to SAM.
No, not the sports jargon term for strong side linebacker. For the Rock Hill Redwomen SAM stands for Stevens, Adams and Morris.
The trio of Grace Stevens, Keilie Adams and Rileigh Morris combined for eight hits, five runs batted in and seven runs scored as the Redwomen rolled past the Portsmouth West Lady Senators 12-5 on Tuesday.
Stevens was 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI and three runs, Adams 3-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs, and Morris was 2-5 with a pair of runs scored.
The offensive output helped Kylee Howard get the win as she struck out four, walked eight and scattered 11 hits.
Rock Hill (2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Morris singled, stole second and scored on a double by Stevens.
West got two runs in the second but the Redwomen rallied with five runs in the top of the third to take the lead for good at 6-2.
Morris singled and Stevens had an RBI double. Makenzie Hanshaw walked, Maddie Harper was hit by a pitch and Adams singled in a run.
Baylee Harrah walked and Kelsey Olderham reached on an error as a run scored.
West got a run back in the bottom of the inning but Rock Hill scored twice in the fourth to lead 8-3.
With one out, Howard walked, Stevens was hit by a pitch, Hanshaw had an RBI single, Harper reached on an error and Adams singled home another run.
The final four runs scored in the sixth inning to make it 12-3.
Howard and Stevens had back-to-back doubles and Harper had a two-run single.
Adams doubled for another RBI while Harrah and Olderham both singled in a run.
West added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring.
Rock Hill visits Coal Grove on Friday.
