Gov. John Kasich may have won Ohio’s presidential primary in 2016, but a recent survey shows he would lose his home state to President Donald Trump in a 2020 rematch.

Kasich has openly contemplated another run for president, likely as a challenger to Trump in the next Republican primary.

According to a survey of Republicans from Baldwin Wallace University’s Community Research Institute, Trump would beat Kasich, 62-27 percent in a hypothetical 2020 match-up.

The survey was conducted among Republican voters statewide from Feb. 28-March 9 and has a margin of error of +/- 6 points.

Kasich remained in the presidential contest longer than most Republican candidates in 2016, banking his hopes on winning his home state, which he carried against Trump, 47-36 percent. Further victories failed to materialize for Kasich after Ohio and Trump won the nomination shortly after.
