Roller derby bout season to begin

Huntington-based Poison Apples to face Gallipolis

HUNTINGTON — Poison Apples Roller Derby, the Tri-State’s active flat-track roller derby team, are set to play their season opener next weekend.

The opening bout against the Silver Bridge Bruisers, of Gallipolis, is set for 5 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at Roll-A-Rama, located at 137 7th Ave. in Huntington.

“This is the Apples’ third match-up against the Bruisers, and it promises to be an exciting game,” the team said in a news release. “The Apples and the Bruisers are friendly off the track, but when the first whistle blows, their gameplay is anything but.”

The Apples were formed in 2015 and play following rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.

Tickets are $8 in advance and can be purchased from at Roll-A-Rama during free skate, by calling 304-529-0909 or from members of the team.

Tickets are $10 on the bay of the bout and can be purchased at the doors, which open at 4 p.m. Season tickets for the Apples are also available for $40, which pays for entry into the six home bouts the team will play from April to September.
