CHILLICOTHE — On a day when The Masters was getting underway and golfers were yelling four, South Point Pointers’ Brody Blackwell was shouting his own version of four.
Blackwell drove in four runs and Travis Dillon pitched a five-inning one-hitter as the Pointers routed the River Valley Raiders 11-1 on Thursday.
Dillon got the win as he allowed only a fifth inning single by Will Edgar. He struck out six and walked one.
“Travis Dillon pitched a great game giving up only one hit and walking just one batter,” said Pointers’ coach Larry Goodwin.
“Sophomore Brody Blackwell had a good night at plate with two hits and four runs batted in.”
South Point (3-0) had eight hits with both Blackwell and Travis Dillon going 2-3.
After a scoreless first inning, the Pointers erupted for seven runs in the second.
Drake McClure and Ben Walls walked, Drew Smith singled to load the bases and an error scored McClure.
Brycen McCann grounded out as a run scored and Brendon Dillon and Douglas Shaffer both walked. Blackwell then doubled home a run.
Travis Dillon walked and Jonathan Henline doubled home a run. McClure hit a sacrifice fly to capped the rally.
South Point came back with three more runs in the third inning to make it 10-0.
With two outs, Brendon Dillon singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Shaffer. Blackwell and Travis Dillon followed with RBI singles.
The Pointers final run came in the fifth on two walks and an RBI single by Blackwell.
The Raiders got their run in the bottom of the fifth when Edgar singled, Seth McDonald reached on an error, a wild pitch and a passed ball.
The game was played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
“We’ve always enjoyed going up to Veterans Memorial (Paints) Stadium in Chillicothe because it is a great venue to play baseball,” said Goodwin.
The Pointers hosts Gallipolis on Friday.
