AID — It was a pitcher’s duel and the Sciotoville East Tartans managed to fire one more shot than the Symmes Valley Vikings.
East got two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and edged th Vikings 3-2 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.
Devin Renfroe worked 5.1 innings for the Vikings. He struck out seven, walked six, gave up four hits and only one run was earned.
“Both pitchers threw well. Devin had runners on a second and third four times and he worked out of the jam. And we played pretty good defense,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Layken Gothard doubled, Derik Brace and Griffin Hill walked and a passed ball scored the run.
Symmes Valley made it 2-0 in the top of the fifth.
Hill walked, moved up on a passed ball, Austin Mannon put down a sacrifice bunt and Brock Carpenter had an RBI single.
East got a run in the bottom of the fifth when Lambert doubled, Winston was hit by a pitch, Queen walked and another hit batsman forced in the run.
