It was gut check time for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.
Down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Tigers rallied for three runs as they edged the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 4-3 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Riley Schreck led off with a base hit and Haylee Stevens followed with a single. Rylie Vaughn was safe on an error to score Schreck.
Stevens scored on a passed ball with Vaughn going to third. Mary Beth Burton then lined a 2-2 pitch for a base hit to drive in Vaughn.
Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ashley Tackett reached on an error, stole second and scored on a hit by Katy Spears.
The lead went to 2-0 in the top of the fifth.
Tackett reached on another error, Spears put down a sacrifice and Ryleigh Swann had a two-out RBI single.
Ironton (3-3, 1-2) got a run back in the sixth with two outs.
Kenzie Cremeens was hit by a pitch and came around on three wild pitches.
Demi Sands then singled and went to second on a wild pitch but was left stranded.
Chesapeake (3-3, 2-1) went up 3-1 in the top of the seventh.
Spears was hit by a pitch and Brooke Webb and Swann followed with singles.
But Ironton then put together its winning rally in the bottom of the inning.
Burton pitched the final three innings to get the win. She struck out two, allowed four hits and two runs — one earned.
Peighton Rowe started and threw well. She worked four innings, struck out six, walked one, gave up one hit and one unearned run.
Sands went 2-for-3 with a triple to lead Ironton at the plate.
Swan was 2-4 with an RBI for Chesapeake.
On Monday, Ironton visits Coal Grove and Chesapeake host Portsmouth.
