Lady Pointers hand Blue Angels first loss

GALLIPOLIS — The South Point Lady Pointers and Gallipolis Blue Angels matched seven-run rallies, but it was another inning that proved to be the difference.
South Point had a three-run second inning that provided the difference as the Lady Pointers edged Gallipolis 10-9 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Gallipolis went up 1-0 in the first when Chasity Adams was hit by a pitch and Bailey Meadows doubled.
South Point answered with three runs in the second as Sara Allen singled, Holley Ramey walked, Reece Duncan reached on an error and Destine Newton singled.
Gallipolis (6-1, 4-1) got a run in the third to get within 3-2 on a bunt single by Alex Barnes, an error and a passed ball.
South Point had its seven-run rally in the fifth inning.
Duncan and Newton singled and Jill Aylsworth hit into a force out. Sophie Morrison reach on a fielder’s choice, Larkin Adkins was safe on an error, Keiana Conwell singled, Abby Hannah doubled, Allen walked, Ramey doubled and Duncan singled.
Gallipolis got its seven-run uprising in the sixth and it was 10-9.
Allie Young belted a home run after Ryelee Sipple and Malerie Stanley singled.
Barnes tripled and Hunter Copley doubled for a run and Chasity Adams singled home Copley. Bailey Meadows then slugged a two-run homer.
Sipple doubled and Stanley walked, but the next batter flied out to end the rally.
South Point had 11 hits with Allen and Duncan going 2-3, Newton 2-2 and Hannah 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Emily Byrd went the distance for her first career win. She struck out seven and walked two.
South Point is at Coal Grove on Friday.
