Bobcats roll past Indians
FRANKLIN FURNACE — Bryce Ponn is becoming a model of consistency.
Ponn threw well once again as the Green Bobcats blanked the Western Indians 11-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game that went just five innings.
Ponn threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk as he picked up the victory.
“Bryce Ponn threw another really good game. He’s 2-0 and he’s thrown well every time he’s been called on,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“We’re starting to hit the ball. We had a hit from all positions in the lineup, so it was a total team effort.”
Green (7-1, 4-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Rylee Maynard and Tanner Kimbler singled and a throwing error back to the infield got loose allowing Maynard to score. Another throwing error on the play scored Kimbler.
Ponn then tripled and Levi Singleton had an RBI single.
The lead went to 7-0 in the second.
Maynard was hit by a pitch and Kimbler and Ponn singled for a run. With runners on the corners, Singleton hit a sacrifice fly.
Mason Barber walked and stole second and Hayden Whittis had a two-run single.
The Bobcats added a run in the third on a hit by Trevor Darnell, Maynard’s sacrifice bunt that was misplayed for a throwing error allowing Darnell to score.
The final three runs scored in the fourth.
Barber led off with a double, Whittis walked and Caden Brammer had an RBI single. Wylie Sanders reached on an error and Maynard had a run-scoring single.
Kimbler then singled to drive in the third run.
Green had 13 hits with Ponn going 2-2 with a triple, Barber 2-2 with a double while Maynard and Kimbler were 2-2.
The Bobcats visits Symmes Valley on Monday.
