Panthers stun Blue Devils

CHESAPEAKE — Stone Cold Steve Austin isn’t the only one with a stunner.
The Chesapeake Panthers pulled off a stunner as they beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 8-6 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
Bryce Depriest struck out five, walked one and gave up only two earned runs as he went the distance for the win.
The Panthers had 10 hits with Evan Burcham going 2-4 with a double, triple and three runs batted in. Trent Dearth and Zach Wright were 2-3 and Depriest also went 2-3 with a double.
Gallipolis took a 4-0 lead in the first inning one three errors, a hit batsman and a single by Dylan Smith — the only hit in the inning.
The Panthers cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third.
Dearth singled and Burcham doubled him home. Josh Hansen had an RBI single and went to second on the throw to home. He scored on a hit by Zach Wright.
Gallipolis got a run in the fourth on hits by Kaden Thomas and Braden Simms, but the Panthers answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Depriest doubled, Bretton Martin bunted for a hit, Hayden Henson hit into a fielder’s choice to score Depriest, Derath hit into a fielder’s choice and Burcham belted a two-run triple. Josh Hansen hit a sacrifice fly for the final run.
Gallipolis got a run in the seventh on doubles by Josh Faro and Garrett McGuire.
Smith and McGuire were 2-4 for Gallipolis.
The teams play at Gallipolis on Friday.
