Holtzapfel, Malone key Lady Flyers’ win

FORT GAY, W.Va. — The battery was seen assaulting the Tolsia Lady Rebels.
St. Joseph Lady Flyers’ pitcher Alex Holtzapfel and catcher Kelsey Malone teamed up to help beat Tolsia 7-1 on Saturday.
Holtzapfel got the win as she allowed just two hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Malone went 2-for-2 with a double and Holtzapfel 2-3 to lead the offense.
St. Joseph took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Malone singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Holtzapfel. Karly Young tripled home Holtzapfel and Young scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Flyers made it 5-0 in the second when Faith Mahlmeister reached on an error, Malone doubled in a run and Holtzapfel had an RBI single.
The lead went to 6-0 in the fourth when Isabella Griffith singled, stole second and scored on two wild pitches.
St. Joseph’s final run scored in the fifth.
Ashley Bartram walked and stole second, took third on a passed ball, Emma Whaley reached on catcher’s interference and Bartram when the catcher tried to throw out Whaley stealing second.
