Lady Hornets edge Lady Panthers, 2-0

CHESAPEAKE — The pitchers dominated, and it took a chink in the defense to decide the out.
Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ Kasey Murphy pitched a one-hitter and Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ Erika gave up only four hits.
But two errors in one inning enabled Coal Grove to score both its runs in a 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference win on Friday.
“Both pitchers threw great. Both the runs were unearned. It was a well-pitched game,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
Murphy struck out eight and walked two. Bowman fanned 10 and walked just one in take the loss.
Coal Grove got the only two runs in the third inning.
Macy Malone and Delaney Napier both reached on errors and Lauren Meyer walked to load the bases. Murphy hit a sacrifice fly for a run and a wild pitch scored Napier.
Meyer and Jaidyn Griffith both went 2-for-2 for Coal Grove’s hits.
Jordan Storms singled in the fifth inning for the lone Chesapeake hit.
The teams meet at Coal Grove on Monday.
