Lady Tigers pound out 20 hits in win

SOUTH POINT — The temperature rose on Monday and so did the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ batting averages.
Ironton pounded out 20 hits as they beat the South Point Lady Pointers 18-3 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Kenzie Cremeens had a huge day at the plate as she went 5-6 with two doubles and four runs batted in.
And she wasn’t the only one.
Mary Beth Burton was 4-6 with a home run and three RBI, Riley Schreck was 3-6 with two doubles and three RBI, Kiandra Martin 2-4 with a double and Sophia Caines 3-4 with two RBI.
Burton got the win as she gave up six hits, two earned runs, struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Ironton pushed across a run in the first inning when Cremeens manufactured a run with a base hit, then stole second, took third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Tigers came back to score six times in the second inning to make it 7-0.
Martin singled and Rylie Vaughn singled, Caines was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mya Ray reached on an error as a run scored.
Burton was safe on an error to score Vaughn and Schreck doubled to clear the bases. Cremeens then doubled home Schreck to cap the rally.
South Point got a run in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run by Keianna Conwell.
The Lady Pointers cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the third.
Jill Alysworth singled, Sophe Morrison put down a sacrifice, and Lakin Adkins reached on an error as a run scored. Conwell then doubled in the second run.
Ironton got the two runs back in the fifth with two outs when Burton singled, Schreck doubled and Cremeens had a two-run double.
Ironton then exploded for nine runs in the seventh inning.
Burton singled, went to third on a fly out by Schreck and scored on Cremeens’ base hit.
Demi Sands singled and an error allowed the run to score. Martin was safe on an error and Stevens reached on an error as two runs scored.
Vaughn walked and Caines singled for two runs. Holly Dutey reached on yet another error and Caines scored on a steal of home. Burton then cranked a two-run homer and it was 18-3.
Ironton visits Minford on Tuesday. South Point goes to Boyd County on Friday.
