CHESAPEAKE — It took a while, but the Chesapeake Lady Panthers finally got started.
After four scoreless innings, Chesapeake finally scored in the fifth and sixth innings and blanked the Fairland Lady Dragons 6-0 in the Division III sectional tournament on Tuesday.
Erika Bowman pitched a four-hitter, struck out 13 and walked only one to get the win.
Adrianna Hoffman tossed four scoreless innings before surrendering two runs in the fifth. Chesapeake only had five hits.
“Bowman threw a good game. Both pitchers threw well. It was scoreless until the fifth,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
“It’s not how many hits you get, but when you get them. We made our hits count.”
Chesapeake snapped the scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth.
Ashley Tackett drew a one-out walk and Brooke Webb belted a two-out, two-run homer.
The Lady Panthers added four insurance runs in the sixth.
Rachel Pratt got a two-out walk, Tackett was hit by a pitch and Katy Spears was safe on a fielder’s choice to load the bases.
Webb walked to force in a run, Ryleigh Swann singled in a second run and Lyric Bair reached on an error as two runs scored.
Holli Leep was 2-3 for Fairland.
Chesapeake plays at 5 p.m. Friday at Ironton in the sectional finals.
