Phyllis Newcomb

Jan. 20, 1938 — May 8, 2018

Phyllis Jean Newcomb, 80, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Grundy, Virginia native was born Jan. 20, 1938, the daughter of the late Baskem and Flonny Lester. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Shirlene Newcomb, who passed away in 2012.
Phyllis attended Grundy schools and was a homemaker. She also attended Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Ratliff.
She is survived by four sons, Roger (Tammy) Newcomb, Danny (Tina) Newcomb, Gary (Teri) Newcomb, and Jerry Newcomb, all of Ironton; three daughters, Eileen Newcomb, Cindy (Joey) Sizemore, and Jean Clay, all of Ironton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Minister Mike Fyffe officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To offer the family condolences please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Ralph Deer

May 3, 1958 — April 18, 2018

Ralph Patrick “Pat” Deer, born May 3, 1958, in Ironton, passed away Friday, April 18, 2018, at Stein Hospice in Sandusky. Pat was married to Isabelle (Frames) Deer, who survives.
Pat is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Don) Bolyard; stepson, William Fleck Jr.; stepdaughter, Patricia Fleck; brother, Robert (Sharon) Deer; sisters, Mary Ann (Daniel) Massie and Dawn (Greg) Rister; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hazel (Duty) Deer; and brothers, Craig and Dane Deer.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodland Chapel and Kelley’s Bridge in Ironton.
