Pointers slip past Warriors

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The pitching kept the South Point Pointers in the game until the offense could get some runs.
The offense only had three hits but the Pointers managed to squeeze out a 3-2 win in nine innings over the Cross Lanes Christian Warriors on Tuesday.
Jonathon Henline and Brody Blackwell combined on a six-hitter for the Pointers. Blackwell worked 1.1 innings to get the win while Henline went the first 7.2 innings allowing six hits, two earned runs with 13 strikeouts and three walks.
South Point (17-4) snapped a scoreless tie with a run in the fifth.
Henline reached on an error, stole second and scored on a hit by Ben Walls.
Cross Lanes took a 2-1 lead in the sixth.
George Foster singled, Reed Fisher walked, moved up on a double steal and scored on a hit by Elijah Stepp.
The Pointers tied the game in the seventh to force extra innings.
Blackwell was hit by pitch, moved up on a fly out, stole third and scored when the throw went into left field.
South Point got the winning run in the ninth when Henline, Walls, Drake McClure and Dawson Runyon all walked.
Blackwell retired Cross Lanes in order in the bottom of the inning.
South Points hosts the winner of the Meigs and Southeastern game at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Division III sectional finals.
