PROCTORVILLE — Playing the same team on back-to-back days could be cause for a letdown, but not for the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.
Chesapeake shook off any thoughts of a letdown with a 10-7 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Fairland Lady Dragons on Wednesday.
The two teams met on Tuesday in the sectional tournament with Chesapeake winning 6-0. Lady Panthers’ coach Aaron Rice said pride was the key motivator as his team finished 9-5 in the OVC.
“It’s a conference game and it always matters for our standing in the conference and you always want to finish as well as you can,” said Rice.
Chesapeake got three runs in the first.
Katy Spears and Brooke Webb singled, Ryleigh Swann had a two-run double and Jordan Storms had an RBI double.
Fairland took a 4-3 lead in the third.

Chesapeake came back to take an 8-4 lead in the top of the fourth.

Webb had a two-run single and Swann singled in a run and an outfield error allowed a second run to score.
The Lady Dragons cut the deficit to 8-6 in the bottom of the inning.
Hoffman and Fridley singled, Bowen reached on an error to load the bases and Libby Judge hit into a force play and Runnels followed with a two-run single.
Chesapeake got a run in the fifth on Storms’ second solo home run.
Fairland got the run back in the bottom of the inning to trail 9-7 when Adkins reached on a fielder’s choice, moved up on a passed ball and Hoffman had an RBI single.
The Lady Panthers added an insurance run in the sixth.
