SOUTH POINT — Sophomore Brody Blackwell pitched more like a senior.
Blackwell tossed a two-hitter as he struck out nine and walked two and the South Point Pointers blanked the Cross Lanes Christian Warriors 6-0 on Thursday.
“Brody Blackwell pitched well tonight. Logan Rose and Jonathon Henline hit the ball well getting two key hits each,” said Pointers’ coach Larry Goodwin.
Rose was 2-2 and Henline 2-3 as the Pointers had nine hits. Blackwell was 1-4 but had two runs batted in.
The Pointers (18-4) hosts Meigs at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Division III sectional finals.
South Point took a 2-0 lead in the third.
Rose singled, stole second and went to third on a hit by Brycen McCann. Drew Smith hit a sacrifice fly with McCann going to third and scoring when Blackwell reached on an error.
The Pointers opened up a 5-0 lead with three runs in the fifth.
Rose singled, went to second on a wild pitch and took third when McCann’s sacrifice bunt was misplayed for an error as the run scored.
Smith reached on an error and went to second on defensive indifference. Blackwell then singled home both runners.
The final run scored in the sixth when Jacob Wise, Dawson Runyon and Douglas Shaffer all singled.
