Betty Ann Heffner

April 17, 1934 — May 11, 2018

Betty Ann Heffner, age 84 of Ironton, passed away on May 11, 2018 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
Mrs. Heffner was born April 17, 1934, The daughter of the late Albert and Gertrude (Cripple) Steed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Heffner.
Betty attended Coal Grove schools and worked at Wilson’s Sporting Goods. She retired from Lawrence County General Hospital where she was a nurse’s aide. Betty was a member of Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded by three brothers, John, Calvin and Carl; a sister, Virginia.
Survivors include a sister; Carrie Riedel, of Ironton; one brother, Landon Steed, of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home on Monday at 11 a.m. Funeral will be at noon, with Larry Comer officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

 

Richard Bond

Sept. 5, 1953 — May 10, 2018

Richard “Dickie” Joe Bond, 64, of South Point, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Peoria, Illinois.
Richard was born September 5, 1953, a son of the late Deloris “Dee” and Carole (Smith) Bond.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hammond Bond, whom he married Aug. 29, 1977.
Richard was a 1971 graduate of Rock Hill High School. He was a truck driver for Estes and had driven a truck since 1979. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, listening to music and race cars. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a maternal grandmother, Clara Smith; father and mother-in-law, James and Mary Hammond.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard Nicholas (Taylor) Bond, of Franklin Furnace; a daughter, Samantha (Justin) Lister, of Proctorville; a granddaughter, Abigail Lister, of Proctorville; a sister; Deane (Fred) Evans, of Decatur; a brother-in-law, Jerry Hammond; a nephew, Kyle (Cortney) Evans, of Decatur; two nieces, Brook Hammond, of Los Angeles, California and Shaina Hammond, of Chillicothe; and a lot of good friends who will miss him.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. 6th St., Ironton, with Pastor Randy Patrick officiating.

Lavonne Scott

March 1, 1926 — May 11, 2018

Lavonne Ruth Scott, 92, of Ironton, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Harbor Health Care.
The Lawrence County, native was born March 1, 1926, the daughter of James and Jesse Kinnison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Reggie” Scott, who passed away in 1996.
Ruth graduated from Oak Hill High School and was a 1961 graduate of Ohio University, with her bachelor’s degree in education. She was a school teacher at Kingsbury Elementary for 37 years and retired in 1998. She was a member of The United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and giving swimming lessons.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles “Brent” Scott.
She is survived by three sons, Marc and Catherine Scott, of Lancaster; Jay and Debbie Scott, of Pennsylvania, and Steve Scott, of Ironton.
Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home 1004 S. 7th Street, Ironton, with Minister Kenneth Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
