A staple of the county

On Tuesday, the Lawrence County Fairgrounds drew hundreds of seniors and their families for several hours of food, entertainment and fun.

The fourth annual Senior Day at the fairgrounds, organized by the Sybene-Chesapeake Senior Center, took place.

Among the entertainment options were many informational booths, which center director Darlene Green said were invited to give seniors an idea of services that are available, whether medical options or home care products.

The event always draws a large crowd and Green and the board of the senior center spend months booking vendors and attractions.

In addition, students from Collins Career Technical Center are always on hand to offer free manicures, haircuts and other options.

The event provides a valuable service, as well as allows the community a chance to socialize in the county’s eastern end.

We commend all those involved in pulling the festivities off each year and wish them success for many years to come.
