Coal Grove boys, girls headline D3 regional track qualifiers

CHILLICOTHE — And on to the regionals.
The second day of the Division III district track meet produced more qualifiers for the regional meet to be held at Fairfield Union High School on Wednesday and Friday.
The top four finishers in each district event qualify for the regional meet.
The Coal Grove boys and girls’ track teams led the regional qualifier list while the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, Rock Hill Redwomen and Green Bobcats also had athletes advance.
Ironton’s Loralei Griffiths was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 17.16 clocking to reach the regional meet.
Coal Grove’s Sarah Cecil was fifth with a 17.33 time.
Ironton’s Kyleigh Pauley was eighth in the 100-meter dash with a 13.87 time and sixth in the 200 meters with a 27.82 clocking.
Griffiths and Pauley joined Erica Collins and Lilly Zornes to finish third in the 4×100 relay with a clocking of 52 seconds.
Coal Grove’s quartet of Kaylee Harris, Jaida Smith, Emily Compliment and Cecil was eighth at 54.94.
The same foursome combined to finish third in the 4×400 with a time of 4:24.12. Ironton’s team of Pauley, Colins, Griffiths and Graci Davis was seventh at 4:35.77.
In the 1600-meter run, Chesapeake’s Kelsie Hegemeyer was second at 5:31.50 and advanced to the regional.
Hegemeyer also placed second in the 800 meters with a 2:26.37 time and finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 14-5.75.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Cecil was third at 49.95 and Green’s Tori Ratliff was sixth at 51.70 seconds.
In the 3200-meter run, Rock Hill’s Camryn Miller was third with a time of 12:49.67.
Coal Grove’s Lauren Holliday won the pole vault as she cleared 8-feet. The Lady Hornets’ Emileigh Bryant was seventh in the discus with a toss of 101-4.
Rock Hill’s Ally Neal tied for third in the pole vault at 7-4. With Coal Grove’s Halie Frazier seventh at 6-6.
In the boys meet, Coal Grove advanced both entrants in the 110 hurdles. Justin Hicks was third at 17.0 seconds and Jed Whitworth was fourth at 17.11.
Green’s Zach Huffman was fifth at 17.27 and teammate Troy Otworth eighth at 18.62.
In the 300 hurdles, Coal Grove’s Joey Workman was fourth at 42.46 and with Huffman fifth at 43.15.
Huffman was also seventh in the 200 meters with a 25.05 time.
Coal Grove’s 4×200 relay team of Kyle Sites, Austin Stormes, Workman and Aaron Music was second with a time of 1:37.51.
Justin Hicks joined Sites, Workman and Stormes to place second in the 4×100 with a time of 46.06.
Workman was third in the high jump as he cleared 6-1. Music was fifth at 6-foot.
The Hornets team of Nathaniel Brumett, Evan Holmes, Sites and Music ran a 3:43.21 and finished second in the 4×400 relay.
Stormes was fifth in the 100 meters at 12.38 seconds.
Green’s James Hallam was eighth in the 1600 with a 5:07.33 time and Bailey Derifield eighth in the 800 at 2:21.65.
Hallam came back to take third in the 3200 meters with an 11:02.56 time.
Coal Grove’s Kimo Baldwin — who qualified in the discus on Wednesday — was second in the shot put with a heave of 46-4.5. Teammate Austin Stapleton was sixth at 42.8.5.
